Jaguar E-Type & XK Club day

Saturday, August 15th, 2015

It’s been a while since our last post so with it being well over due I thought it time to show what we’ve been up to over the past few months.

One of the highlights of the summer was the invitation to attend the Jaguar E-Type and XK owners club event. By kind invitation from club members John and Jan Hunt, we attended the meeting and offered a number of services and advise to other members attending on the event on Saturday 25th July

The first photograph is of Mrs and Mrs James XK who were seeking advice after having issues with water spots staining the coachwork of they’re otherwise stunning XK.

Classic Jaguar XK

With members traveling from all across the U.K. we were on hand to give members cars a little T.L.C…….

And it was great to see some of the future classics in attendance!

New E-Type

My own personal favourite E-Type of the day is this 1964 Gunmetal grey E-Type S1 3.8 OTS belongs to a Mr & Mrs Wilkie.

The thing that resonates with me the most about classic cars is that they come with a story, something that starts not only from when they are first purchased (like the new F-type) but continues through the owners and they’re lives. It adds a certain romance to the experience of ownership and to working with them.

We were fortunate enough to learn some of the history of Mr & Mrs Wilkie’s classic whilst preparing it, so it would be a shame not pass the story so far……

The car was first purchased on 4th August 1964 by Mr Claude Cornwell of St. Lenards-on-Sea for the sum of £1858.11s.5d which also included 8 gallons of petrol.

Mr Cornwell sold the E-type to John Houghton on 7th January 1965 who subsequently sold the car to Neil Hughes 1969 with 17000 miles showing on the odometer . The car was then sold to a family friend, Don Wright on 7th March 1972 with 35000 miles on the clock. In the November of 1974 the car was involved in a minor accident but Don decided he wanted to restore the car back to it’s former glory.

Sadly, Don passed away whilst it was stripped down and the car remained in the family garage until 6th February when Neil Hughes once again purchased. Neil completed the refurbishment over a number of years and in 2012 the car was completed with a full re-trim.

On the 10th September 2013, the E-Type moved onto it’s current owner Mr Wilkie. Currently, the miles are reading 49000 on the clock.

My preference was also shared by the judges of the show as after we had prepared it on the day, it went on to win the award for best E-Type of the day!

Many thanks to The Jaguar E-Type & XK owners club and very special thank you to our friends at Malvern Car Storage

How did I manage that!?

Thursday, September 18th, 2014

Ever scrapped an alloy or just caught the bumper on wall and been left confused as to how you managed it?

Well spare a thought for this Russian truck drive who was left wondering how he managed to walk away after exiting thorough the windscreen of his truck!

VW Scirocco R

Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

Here are some pictures of a Correction Detail on a New Scirocco R.
The first shows the marring that was evident on the all over the coach work. I won’t mention the name of the dealership that it was supplied from. I will however mention, that to justify the reason it looked like this is because “This is what happens with black paint” is sub standard.

Here are a couple of before pictures, first of which is the bonnet…..

and the driver’s side….

and the passenger side.

The swirling marks you can see are called marring. The most common cause is due to particles being swept across the surface, usually when being washed and/or dried with contaminated equipment. I always advise people to be selective where the allow the vehicle to be cleaned as this is a widespread problem with hand car wash companies, main dealers and garages. The same bucket of water will more than likely have washed your vehicle and the previous 20 vehicles! When you couple that with not using a good washing strategy (eg. The 2 bucket method) then you are heading for certain doom.

Now here are few pictures of the finished result starting with the drivers side.
